How to Apply
Criteria:
San Jose Highly Gifted Magnet Center is one of only three elementary school magnet programs within Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) that serves the needs of highly gifted students. To be admitted into the program, students must score a minimum of 99.5% on an intellectual assessment administered by a LAUSD school psychologist. In order for your child to be referred for an IQ Test, you must do the following:
- Submit a written letter of request to have your child IQ tested at your current school.
- Sign a Parental Consent Form for the IQ Test
- Wait until you are notified of the upcoming IQ Test, which could take 2-4 months from the time your IQ referral has been submitted to the district.
Once your child has been tested, please call Olivia Diaz, Magnet Coordinator at San Jose Highly Gifted Magnet Center for your child’s unofficial test score.
eChoices:
The opportunity to apply to our magnet program for the 2020-21 school year will begin on Thursday, October 1, 2020. The office of Student Integration will mail out a post card stating when the eChoices online application is available. Schools will also put up eChoices Posters notifying parents of the date as well. Once the short window to enroll opens, it is required that you fill out the application immediately. Once you complete the application, you will receive a confirmation number, which you will need to keep in a safe place as that will be your number to verify or gather information about your application. It is imperative that you complete the application by the deadline. If you complete it late, you will be placed on a “late list.”
eChoices Brochure comes from the Student Integration Office and can be reached at 213-241-4177 if you have questions.
